A journey into motherhood
The history of Oak Meadow began when I was pregnant with my first child, and it’s amazing now, how years later we’ve grown to create a brand that truly embraces the cycle of transformation that a woman goes through in becoming a mother. I didn’t start out with the intention to make breastfeeding friendly dresses for women, but going through the cycle of one pregnancy and then another, I naturally leant into the creative process and found that intuitively I was designing for women at all stages, cherishing the wonder of the female form, especially during the transformative years of becoming a mother myself.
During those early years, I felt really lost as to what to wear
Fashion itself is a way to express creativity and our identity, and in becoming a mother my style had had a rebirth of sorts too. I found I didn’t want to wear what I used to wear, but I still had an appreciation of wearing clothes that made me feel beautiful, feminine, graceful and that would flatter my figure after birth. I wanted pieces that felt like “me”, in a time where my identity was changing, and I wanted clothes that would make me feel beautiful, that lifted my spirits, especially after those hard days, those long nights, those endless cycles of caring for others. Something that was special and just for me - in a time where everything I was doing – was about giving myself to others.
Accentuating the beauty of women in all stages of their life
To see where Oak Meadow has now come, and the many beautiful photos we are sent of women in all stages of their pregnancy in their Oak Meadow pieces, is now both incredible and humbling. We design floaty, relaxed shapes to be worn at all stages of a woman’s life, both during pregnancy and beyond, and many of our styles feature button openings or loose straps and consequently are breastfeeding friendly. We intend to always create to accentuate the beauty of women in all stages of their life, in a conscious way respecting Mother Earth. Our dream is that our pieces will get passed down to those beautiful babes whose mother once danced barefoot in our dresses and felt beautiful, confident and alive.
